Get your trade in writing!

Oh – the horror stories out there . . .

I have heard of so many horror stories of trades gone bad.  When I ask the individuals if they had their trade in writing, I always hear the same answer – “No”.

From time to time I will enter into a trade if it is for my business and it makes sense at the time.  I always require trades to be in writing.

The nature of the trade agreement needs to be articulated in writing as to what each party receives, deadlines for the work, how hard costs will be reimbursed, etc.  Anything you would outline in a normal contract should be addressed in your trade agreement.

Even if you know the person, get it in writing.  This will eliminate misunderstandings and keep established relationships from being put in jeopardy.
